Submissions

Thank you for your interest in releasing your work with New Amsterdam Records. We know how much time and energy goes into recording projects, and we deeply appreciate you considering our label as a home for your creation.

All submissions are reviewed during an initial screening process; selected recordings are then reviewed by the Artistic Advisory Committee, a rotating group of affiliated artists who evaluate projects in conjunction with the NewAm staff. There are many factors that go into determining which projects we release at a given time; at times we simply have too many upcoming projects in the pipeline to take on anything new.

In general, we are seeking recordings that are works of art unto themselves, not secondary reflections of a live experience; that are inherently genre-fluid in nature, and would not be well-served by more traditional genre-oriented labels; and that are the most personal, fully-realized musical statements of unique artistic voices. Put another way, we look for projects that we would have a hard time imagining being released anywhere else.

New Amsterdam is structured as a non-profit artist service organization, not a conventional commercial record label. To that end, NewAm artists retain full master ownership and 100% of sales proceeds in exchange for an administrative fee roughly equivalent to 1/3 of our cost to represent each record. The remaining costs are covered by our fundraising efforts. Artists receive a full multi-month publicity campaign, label management services, international digital distribution, physical distribution in North America for physical product, management and execution of licensing requests, accounting, and overall artistic support, network building, and career development.

We do not “sign” artists, instead working exclusively on a project-to-project basis, so if one of your projects is not chosen, we encourage you to consider submitting another project in the future.
