“‘Orange’ by Caroline Shaw played by the Attacca Quartet that just released on April 19, 2019 at New Amsterdam Records & Nonesuch Records, who publish it in collaboration. In Orange Attacca Quartet he plays six of his pieces for string quartet. The composer, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, shares new works built around the five-part series "Plan & Elevation" suite. Trying imaginatively the traditional string quartet format (as she did with the choral tradition in her Partita for 8 Voices, winner of the Pulitzer), Shaw offers a tour of what she calls her ‘garden’. Orange is a reference to fruit and the ways in which we are surprised in endless encounters with the same object. As Shaw puts it in his notes, ‘the thousandth orange you eat is as extraordinary as the first.’”
