PRESS RELEASE: New single and video from composer Molly Herron

New Music: Molly Herron's "Through Lines" Out Now

"Trill" music video by Four/Ten Media and Maiko Kaikuchi

"Smartly crafted layers of historical and contemporary ideas... Herron holds the sound of the viol under a microscope, expanding its sound and meaning. In negotiating the space between the conventional and the unconventional, she also creates a connection between composers of the past and herself, a thoughtful and skilled composer of the 21st century." — I Care If You Listen

Today, composer Molly Herron releases Through Lines, an album for an ensemble of violas da gamba performed by the Science Ficta trio. To celebrate, Herron has also released the video for the track "Trill."

“'Trill' transforms the trill from an ornament into the central focus of the work,” says Herron. “It drives rhythmic twists and turns.”

Created by Four/Ten Media with animation from Maiko Kikuchi, the video follows Science Ficta as they expand on the album's visual world, at one point revisiting earlier work from Kaikuchi's "Canon No. 3" video.

Listen to Herron discuss the track "After Picforth" on New Sounds with John Schaefer. Watch the full video and get Through Lines digitally and on CD below.

Announcing new album from composer Charlotte Greve, Sediments We Move; first single out now

"Part V" excerpt video by Christopher Hegenberg

The winner of two ECHO Jazz Prizes (the German equivalent of a GRAMMY), composer, singer, and saxophonist Charlotte Greve has been praised as the "Best of Bandcamp" for her nebulous sound — one that flows freely between choral music, rock, noise, free jazz, metal, ambient, and bombastic 80s-inspired pop.

On Sediments We Move, Greve, backed by her band, Wood River, and Berlin choir Cantus Domus, invites listeners into a world where disparate sounds weave together like twine, melding into one beautiful, cohesive flow.

Due out 10/15, Sediments We Move mixes Greve’s myriad influences—both as a composer and a human. “I would describe this work as an image of myself, turned inside out, completely vulnerable and bare, out in the open,” says Greve. “All my influences are here, interwoven together unapologetically.”

The first single, "Part V," is out now along with an excerpt video animated by Christopher Hegenberg, inspired by the album artwork from Tracy Maurice. Listen, watch, and pre-order below.
